TaikOz regularly performs main-stage concerts and collaborative projects throughout Australia and internationally. Programs often feature the full 8-member ensemble as well as smaller combinations of players including, on many programs, Shakuhachi Grand Master Riley Lee. TaikOz has an extensive repertoire of over 50 works for taiko, shakuhachi and various other combinations of instruments and artists, including concerto works for taiko and symphony orchestra. The group also features vocal work and dance by various members of the ensemble.
Music ranges from works composed by group members, as well as other Australian and international composers, along with traditional music from Japan. TaikOz members are all highly trained performers and teachers and will lead your company through a unique team working experience. Designed to give people a chance to experience the power of the Japanese taiko, TaikOz Corporate Workshops will energise, stimulate and excite! PUBLIC WORKSHOPSTaikOz conducts Wadaiko workshops around Australia. These range from 2 hour "Taiko Is For Everyone!” sessions for the interested novice, to 3 and 5-day courses for experienced players who wish to delve deeper into the music, history and concepts of taiko playing. Information on upcoming workshops is listed under CLASSES. “The first reason that I started to learn Wadaiko, was because I just wanted to try to take a close look at the big taiko, touch it, and pound it with all my strength. I didn't know at that time that the taiko was a casket that is filled with many interesting things. The more I know the taiko, the more I become engrossed in it.”
SCHOOLS CONCERTS AND WORKSHOPSTaikOz regularly performs concerts and workshops for Primary and High School students. Combining the power of the taiko drums with the hushed, ethereal tones of the Japanese shinobue flute, their one-hour concert involves performance of Japanese and Australian music as well as student participation. TaikOz workshops introduce students to the power of the taiko drumming through hour-long workshops, which involve lots of hands-on student participation.
