Our online Elements classes are designed for players with some taiko playing experience and focus on the integration of movement of bachi, arms and body, good sound production, development of speed, endurance, breath control, and a solid sense of rhythm.
In Term 2 we will explore some good exercises and technique across one and two taiko - when you start exploring
more than one taiko this is referred to as taiko set. If you do not have 2 areas to strike Kerryn will adjust the program for you.
The term will consist of 9 weeks of :
: gentle stretches standing away from the instrument.
: basic stroke utilising the Taikoz renshu (focus on the body and the sound you produce at the beginning of the session)
: technical work for wrist and fingers
: body position in relation to 1 and 2 taiko.
: a new composition by Kerryn
What you will need
: space for stretching
: 2 practise pads playing with drumsticks or ideally 2 taiko of various pitch with bachi.
: an area with good light for the instructor to see you.
