A huge thank you to our supporters for helping bring CATHARSIS to the stage and for coming to see the fruits of our labor. With your financial support, we were able to hire the NIDA Playhouse and mount our first main-stage show in over 18 months. This inspired me to finish the music early in the new year so we could present the work in April.
Equally inspiring was collaborating with Danish sound artist Xuri. Her beautiful electronica tracks are imbued with a naturalness that belies their synthetic origins. After four months of workshopping, rewriting, and refining the taiko-percussion-koto-shinobue-vocal score, it was pure delight to finally present CATHARSIS in Sydney and Bathurst.
Despite being exhausted after our CATHARSIS performances, we dove straight into rehearsals and had a wonderful time putting the program together with Riley and Timothy. Both are exceptional musicians, each bringing a profound depth of artistry to the project. Collaborating with Timothy on his virtuosic multi-percussion piece, Last Shaman, stirred up fond memories of our time in Synergy, while revisiting Resounding Bell with Riley felt like experiencing it anew. The beautiful colours and musical lines they painted and wove were truly inspiring!
