ABOUT HIRO HAYASHIDA

Hiro was a member of Kodo from 1985-1991 and performed on more than 800 stages all over the world. He then became a solo artist and played with Takio Ito, Japan’s most famous min’yo singer.

Hiro is internationally recognised as a pioneer and leading player of the katsugi okedo, or ‘shouldering drum’. He composes original music for the instrument and holds workshops all over the world teaching his unique methods. Hiro released an instructional DVD and has also produced a new type of taiko with a renowned taiko maker. In addition, he has developed a unique electronic katsugi okedo with an international electronic musical instrument manufacturer, which won the Japan Good Design Award in 2004. In 2011, worldwide percussion instrument manufacturer REMO produced the Hiroyuki Hayashida Signature Model Katsugi Okedaiko.

With his many original ideas and foresight, Hiro has never stopped being a pioneer in the taiko world, and as a solo taiko player, composer and producer he continues to have a major influence on the world of taiko. View Hayashida-sensei at… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2lhx_p7IUSI
