TAIKOZ JANUARY INTENSIVE | 26-28 January 2024 | Two Ultimo dojos – Taikoz Dojo and D2
Intermediate players, advanced players, out-of-Sydney players – everyone is welcome!

We’re going to sweep away the cobwebs and freshen ourselves up and get ready to meet the challenges of 2024. How? Simple… we’re going to focus on the essence of what we do best: Tai 太 – ‘big, fat, around’ – Ko 鼓 – “drum”!

To bring the ‘intense’ into ‘Intensive’, nine sessions will be devoted to “Bat Techniques, Furitsuke & Bachi Spins”, in other words, some cool moves and techniques that will feed into Taiko Grooves With Anton – Featuring Special Guest Instructor ANTON LOCK. Anton’s final session will be filmed and made into a fully edited and mixed short film. Other sessions are “Naname-daiko Basics” (slanted style drumming) and “Dengaku Okedo” (field-music drumming).

There will be two streams – one for Intermediate and another for Advanced players (see below for definitions). Sessions will run concurrently in the Taikoz Dojo and up the corridor in D2.

To kick us off, there will be “Odaiko Uchikomi-geiko” (drumming up a storm on the Grand Drums) on Friday evening, followed by four 90-minute sessions on Saturday and again on Sunday. Both days will begin with warm-ups in Wentworth Park, weather permitting.

For relaxation, we’ll enjoy a meal together on Saturday night. And then when we're all totally exhausted, post-Intensive drinks on Sunday evening.
