Rhythm According to Kevin Part 1 with Kevin Man - Term 2 2017

Term 2

Fees

$20 Full / $20 Concession

Workshops

Lecture presentation on ARSIS - THESIS a term that originates in Greek drama and dance and how we can apply this to create expressive music on your instrument.

With an Australian-Born-Chinese background Kevin studied piano with Stephanie McCallum and classical percussion with Richard Miller before discovering traditional Japanese instruments. Leaving a full-time position with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra Kevin spent the last 15 years playing taiko with Taikoz (learning taiko with Ian Cleworth and other members) and expanding skills to shinobue and shakuhachi (with Riley Lee) but has recently returned in 2016 to symphonic percussion as a permanent member of the Opera Australia Orchestra (formerly the Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestra).

Recognising the need for teachers to pass on knowledge to the next generation (and acknowledging Kevin’s teachers), this lecture presentation will see Kevin articulate what he believes to be the most important tool in creating expression through a system of treating rhythm.

What to bring - an open mind! Other than that, nothing else.
Suitability - ages senior high school and up. Taiko experience is not essential if you play another musical instrument.
