In School Interactive Workshop

Performace Type: School Workshop

Taikoz’s school workshops are completely interactive, providing a great introduction to the basics of taiko drumming. Taiko is very physical and our workshops assist in developing musical and listening skills through coordinated movement of the arms, legs and body. The workshop begins with warm ups, which lead into learning rhythmic patterns, followed by a short piece of music to play together at the conclusion.

Key areas of learning are:

  • Maintaining a beat
  • Sequencing and pattern-making
  • Developing aural memory, kinaesthetic awareness and physical coordination
  • Working together with others

During the workshop students will:

  • Learn stick grip
  • Learn how to strike the taiko
  • Learn various rhythmic patterns
  • Experience various styles of taiko drumming
  • Explore a range of movement and dance

And in the process…

  • Experience the awe-inspiring sound of the taiko
  • Have a good physical workout
  • Improve body awareness
  • Develop listening skills
  • Develop team spirit
  • Learn about the fascinating tradition of wadaiko
  • Have fun!
