LION-DOGS

30 Jun 2023 to 01 Jul 2023

Taikoz is recognised as a ground breaker in contemporary taiko performance, and their latest work LION-DOGS, presents the ensemble in all its varied brilliance.

Featuring Taikoz Artistic Director Ian Cleworth’s latest dramatic, extended work "Lion-Dogs", the program also presents dynamo performer Ryuji Hamada in a newly commissioned solo work by YUNYU for electronic taiko, movement and sound design. YUNYU's colourful and humorous "When The Rain God Sings, Storm Lions Are Born" exploits Ryuji’s talents as brilliant drummer and dynamic mover.

The program will also see the premiere of Ian’s arrangement of music by world-renowned New York composer-performer Kaoru Watanabe. This suite of three varied works by Kaoru - "Dreams" | "Prism" | "Shinobu" - also features saxophone legend SANDY EVANS with the Taikoz ensemble.

As a Prelude to LION-DOGS*, we are proud to present the debut performance of the ATA ENSEMBLE – a new group comprising top players drawn from the Australian Taiko Academy.

* The ATA Ensemble's performance is 20-minutes in duration
