Taikoz is presenting a dynamic 90-minute program at the upper North Shores’ wonderful Glen Street Theatre. We've been playing at The Glen for over 10 years and always find it a pleasure… great venue, great audience.
This year, we're playing a wide selection of music, including the premiere of a new work by Joe Small called Propel. Featuring the full Taikoz ensemble and the IDPE (a group comprising our top students), Propel is, as the title suggests, a fast and furious tour de force for this veritable mega-ensemble!
Counterbalancing the high energy of the taiko will be none other than shakuhachi Grand Master and Taikoz Co-Founder Riley Lee in a selection of works for his sublime instrument, including Deep Mountain Cicadas by Rando Fukuda, arranged Riley Lee & John Cleworth with choreography by Chongwei Zhang.
Other works include Kenichi Koizumi’s Toki no Ritsudo for six odaiko, Ryuji Hamada’s infectiously melodic Reimei, Ian Cleworth’s polyrhythmic Waves for solo kanade-okedo, as well as Ian’s Home – a deeply emotional composition recently commissioned for Taikoz’s 2017 20th anniversary concert.
Come and join us at Taikoz Live! At The Glen for what will be a highly entertaining evening.
