Taikoz co-ordinate and run a very extensive education program - both on-site in our dojo and externally at various schools around Sydney - not to mention our popular schools show performances. We are now well and truly into the 2019 year with all of our weekly classes, school taiko clubs and advanced programs now in full swing.
Taikoz Artistic Director, Ian Cleworth, writes:
Our IDP (Individual Development Program) 2019 group has hit the ground running - they’re all working really hard and throwing themselves into their playing. Saturday is the busiest day of the week when Silvana, Harukua, Rhet, Liam and Hiro start the day with Onikenbai, followed by ensemble work with their IDP alumni colleagues in the IDPEnsemble. After 4½ hours of hard work, they finish off the day with a 90-minute session devoted to the finer points of taiko technique. Over the course of each week, our IDPs concentrate on general rhythmic and ensemble work, the basics of polyrhythms, shimedaiko, nagado and singing. They’ll soon be moving into more specific practice of yoko-uchi (side-on style) taiko and odaiko.
It has been a pleasure to feel their energy in our dojo and to see them share their enthusiasm with our wider taiko community.
