What a wonderful experience we had in WA last week. The Canning River World Art Exchange was quite an event and we were honoured to have been a part of it.
Presented on the
foreshore of Shelley Beach, Canning River (an outlying suburb of Perth), the balmy
evening and stunning outdoor setting was both beautiful and inspiring. Canning
is WA’s most multi-cultural council area, and 5,000 locals turned up to enjoy a
concert curated by Artistic Director John McLaughlin that featured the Ede Gong Culture of Vietnam, Douglas Dunn and Dancers
from New York (a little side point of interest: Douglas danced with Merce
Cunningham and John Cage in the 1960s – an amazing connection to two artistic
greats of the 20th Century), local dance troupe LINK, and the
Canning Community Choir. Taikoz performed with all of these artists, which is a
testament not only to John’s artistic vision, but to Taikoz’s ability to collaborate
with such a wide variety of artists from other cultures and genres; I am very
proud of the ensemble, in what was a very intense three days work!
Taikoz and Lingalayam are performing Chi Udaka at Singapore's Singtel Waterfront Theatre, Esplanade, on November 23-24.
