ABOUT THE PROGRAM
In a sense, we are a liminal ensemble. We gather in our circle of taiko to beat rhythms, weave music, and draw nourishment from the energy we exchange between us.

In this show, we celebrate the twenty year history of Taiko no Wa and give thanks to those who inspire us and to those who planted the seeds we continue to nurture and grow. To our friends whom we have not yet met, welcome. Together we awaken from a long, rumbling quiescence.

Expect a retrospective concert that celebrates our achievements and history, through the uniting force of the taiko. Join us for favourites old and new, and for fusions and explorations, drawn from our vast repertoire amassed over the years. Expect smiles, expect energy, and expect a surprise or two from at least one of our many sleeves.

ABOUT TAIKO NO WA
Taiko no Wa is the Australian Taiko Academy’s community-led open ensemble, with membership drawn from the Academy’s current classes. Taiko no Wa began in 2005 after several Taikoz class members wanted to expand their opportunities to play, including performing in the wilds of Sydney and beyond. To this end, the ensemble has been a staple in Lunar Year celebrations with performances in the Sydney Town Hall, as well as regular visits to Dubbo for performances in the Japanese Gardens. In 2011, Taiko no Wa won First Prize in the International Wadaiko Contest held in Tokyo. A year later, they were invited back to Japan for a reunion of past winners. While many past players have moved on to other pursuits, the group sees new members join regularly, and even some return. The concept of taiko still unites us, as does our mission to push ourselves and share the energetic reciprocity of performance with the wider community.
