Onikenbai is a beautiful, powerful and fascinating dance/music form that hails from Iwate Prefecture, Japan, and our Onikenbai Club is dedicated to the practice of the unique dance and music of the Onikenbai tradition. Open to all current Taikoz class members, regardless of experience level, the club practices every Saturday morning and gives occasional public performances.
What to bring: Loose-fitting clothing, water bottle, towel, *ōgi (folding fan), *obi (sash that you tie around your waist), *katana (Japanese sword, or a piece of bamboo/dowel that is roughly the same size as katana).
Please note: Taikoz has permission from Iwasaki Onikenbai Hozonkai to run the Onikenbai Club, including imprimatur to give public performances. Onikenbai Club Membership is offered to students already enrolled in a Taikoz weekly class.
Onikenbai Club meets every Saturday at the Taikoz Dojo, Ultimo 11.15am - 12.45pm (unless notified by a club member)
