Introduction to the Katsugi Okedo
Claudia is presenting a 4-week introduction to the Katsugi Okedo or slung drum. If you have a Katsugi and can play it in your house – great! – but for most of us, an angled drum pad will suffice. And even without a drum pad you can make do with a chair, a pillow placed upright against the back of the chair (or a towel, anything to pad it slightly), and a pair of bachi or drumsticks.
Claudia will focus on the instrument’s unique grip, stance and movement, some characteristic rhythmic patterns, and over the course of the four weeks, will also introduce a short piece of music.
A good opportunity to introduce yourself to this exciting taiko!
